Born in Iraq, Ahmed M. earned his B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Baghdad. He received his M.A. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of Arizona, where he worked as a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant and taught Iraqi Arabic. Ahmed has taught Arabic at many universities and colleges, including the College of William and Mary and Cornell University. I am a lecturer of Arabic studies at the College of Swarthmore. I have been teaching Arabic for 9 years now. I am familiar with the multiple texts that teach Modern Standard Arabic or an Arabic Colloquial. Communication and an emphasis on the 4 language skills are at the center of teaching approach. Also, the Arabic culture and history are part of learning Arabic, and so an equal emphasis is placed on the pragmatic usage of the language. Teaching students how to use Arabic language culturally is important.
