GENERAL EXPERIENCE: As a teacher, I loved school so much so that I went on to get a graduate degree in management.Accounting and Finance have been huge parts of my professional career (non-tutoring) and I have worked with several companies from non profit organization, trading company, manufacturing company, now with a non-profit that focuses on public education and outreach. I had always had an interest in teaching though. I started tutoring kids, elementary school, junior high, senior high and college with needs that weren't being met at school. At this point I started researching how to help students that were struggling with math and accounting in school. Once families became comfortable with me, I started getting requests to tutor in many other subjects as well. My specialties are two-fold: 1) I have an extensive accounting, finance, math and japanese background and the ability to share this in an effective way with students; accounting is my favorite course in college and I love to revisit it; 2) I have personal and professional experience working with students of all ages that are having difficulty getting what they need out of the classroom.
Tutoring Style:
My approach to tutoring is that all students want to learn, even if they act otherwise. It is my job to make the subject more relevant, interesting and understandable for them. I assume everyone is capable of learning the material and try different ways of introducing and reinforcing information until it sinks in. I believe parents have a hard enough job, and it is sometimes best for someone else to tackle school subjects where the students are not thriving. Students often benefit from a fresh perspective and if their self-esteem is at all suffering from difficulties at school, having a new person involved in their lives can help them feel more confident again.
