I have been tutoring a broad variety of math courses since 2009, and have been teaching at the university level since 2012. My general approach is to gauge the student's current level of understanding and pinpoint the most important missing pieces of knowledge so we can build up a strong mathematical foundation for the student to gain confidence in their ability. I have experience tutoring students from elementary school all the way through graduate school, but most of my experience is with college students, and SAT prep for high school students, mostly in a one-on-one setting online or in person.
My background is in both mathematics and physics (I double majored as an undergraduate at MSU). I completed my PhD in mathematics at NCSU where I contributed to the fields of machine learning and quantum invariants of knots. I am currently a university professor but am soon to be transitioning to an engineering job for the department of defense. I love to help students with a passion in math, but I am also very happy to help people who feel math is difficult for them, or even who dislike math. I am aware that the way math and science is presented to kids often leads to them disliking the subjects (this was the case even for me!). For those students I take great joy in showing them the beauty of mathematics which is not always so easily visible.
