About Shay

I am an elementary teacher with two special education credentials and a master's degree, and have worked as a full-time teacher for ten years. I am currently working as a resource specialist in an elementary school setting. This means that I work on learning goals with students who have been identified as having special needs, but are in the general education setting for the majority of their school day.

I also tutor students after school and on weekends. Some of these students have been identified as having special needs, and need some extra help keeping pace with their school expectations. Some of these students have not be identified as special needs, but need some extra help with understanding concepts taught in school.

Listed here are some of the academic programs I have had experience with:
1. Reading A to Z/Headsprout
2. Six Minute Solution
3. Sound Partners
4. Rewards
5. Fundations
6. Just Words
7. Math Expressions
8. Edmark
9. Eureka Math
10. Touch Math
11. Logic of English (coming soon).

I do have some weekday availability in the Danville/San Ramon area only, but space is limited. Please contact me for further information or questions.

Thank you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have been working in special education for over ten years, and with students identified as having ADHD for the past two years in a public elementary school setting. I have two special education credentials and a master's degree.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have been working with students diagnosed with autism for the past ten years in various settings. My first role was as an instructional aide, then as a supervising behavioral aide, a behavioral interventionist for a private agency, a tutor for special education students through a private agency, and finally as a special education teacher for a special day class for students with autism for the past eight years. I hold a B.A. in Liberal Studies, an Education Specialist Clear Credential, and a M.S. in Special Education. The majority of my student population has been students diagnosed with autism.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a special education teacher in a public school setting who has had tremendous exposure and practice working with general education students and struggling learners. I have attended all the professional development workshops that my general education colleagues have attended in the areas of reading, writing, and math. I have also participated in mainstreaming and co-teaching in a variety of general education classrooms. I feel that I am qualified to help students of all abilities make progress toward their academic goals. I am an elementary teacher with two special education credentials and a master's degree.

Elementary Math

I have experience with several common core math programs, including Eureka math.

Special Needs

I have over eight years experience working with students diagnosed with autism in both the home and school environments. I have my special education credential and master's in special education. My experience is with preschool and elementary-aged students. I have a lot of experience in assessing a student's needs, modifying the content, and implementing instruction.
