I am also currently doing my student teaching at San Clemente High school and I am working in Geometry and Algebra 1 classes. I would like to work with students and make sure that they not only understand the procedural steps to solving a problem, but understanding the reasoning behind and why we do this! I have been in classrooms and around students for the past three years and I enjoy every minute I get to spend with them and help them succeed not only in the classroom, but with whatever else they may need help with! As well with trying to earn my teaching credential, I am also a girls soccer coach at JSERRA Catholic high school.
As far as my tutoring background, I have been a paid tutor for three years. I have tutored all grades of high school, and I have also tutored other peers in my college courses as well. I have been helping people with math for as long as I remember, but just recently turned it into a career. I prefer working with students in algebra, geometry and algebra to trig as those are my strong suits and I really enjoy these courses and helping students understand the material. My tutoring technique includes working one on one with a student and we work together. For instance I like the students to show me the problem they are having trouble with, and I’d like them to work up to the step in the problem where they’re having confusion and then we go from there. I do not like to just give the answer to the student but I like them to be able to explain how they did it and why they did it that way back to me to make sure they fully understand the concept. If a student is able to explain how to do a problem to someone else that means they understand it themselves, which is my goal. As well with being a paid tutor for the past three years, I am also a certified AVID tutor.
