Hello! My name is Kayla! I have a Master's Degree in Computer Science from San José State University. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and a Minor in Mathematics at San Francisco State University. I have been tutoring for about 3 years now and can say without a doubt that I love teaching. I am very passionate about helping others learn to not only comprehend the material they want to learn, but also enjoy learning the subject itself. I love teaching math as well as learning about it myself! Some of the subjects I have tutored students in so far include Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and basic Computer Science concepts. On the side I took Japanese for 3 years and have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at Level N5 during my time in college.
Having taken a multitude of math and science courses during my time in college, I have a firm understanding of how difficult learning both math and Computer Science can be; especially when the instructor moves too fast during a lesson and does not provide a clear explanation of the material. I myself have experienced many courses in which the professor decided to give us all the material to work on but hardly explained to anyone in the class what the material was about or how to understand it. I believe that when tutoring any subject it is imperative to ensure that the student has a firm grasp and understanding of the material being taught. In order to make sure this is the case I take my lessons slow and try to help my students understand the material to the point when they are capable of solving problems on their own. Rather than just help them complete their assignments and move on to the next subject I want to help students develop a solid understanding of the topic at hand as well as encourage them to have fun while doing so.
