About Me:

I have been teaching chess for 20+ years, which includes group teaching for 2 different chess organizations and also private chess lessons. I have helped all students improve their skill level dramatically, and many have become champions. In addition to teaching, I have been playing chess for 32+ years, of which 15+ years have been competitive in tournaments. I won the u1600 rating section of the Western States Open tournament at the Sands Regency in Reno, Nevada in 2002. I also defeated the Nevada State Chess Champion in 3 out of 6 rated tournament games in 2010.

About the chess lesson:

I offer personalized online chess lessons for kids and adults from beginner level up to a rating of 1800.

I have over 20 years of teaching experience and more than 15 years of competitive chess experience. My students have made strong improvement in both skill and confidence, and one of my students became the Nevada Scholastic State Champion in the K-3 section. Many other students have also won regional school and individual chess championships in Northern Nevada.

I teach all areas of chess, including tactics, openings, middlegame planning, endgames, and game analysis. I also review student games and give clear, practical advice to help them improve as quickly as possible.

My teaching style is adapted to each student's needs and goals. Online lessons are especially effective because I can quickly change positions, highlight key squares, draw arrows, and move through games efficiently.

Whether you are learning chess for the first time, trying to improve your tournament results, or looking for a strong coach for your child, I would be happy to help!

Algebra 1

I have one year of experience in teaching Algebra 1 to high school students in the inner city as a substitute teacher who sought out high school math subbing opportunities. My experience also includes 6 weeks as a long-term substitute as I assisted Resource students in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, in which several students improved dramatically (one student who was flunking his math class got a "B" on a test after receiving help from me).
Chess

Chess

I have taught chess to kids and adults for 12 years, especially kids, in both private lessons and group instruction. I won 1st place in my section in the Western States Open in 2002 (over $1000 prize). I defeated the 2010 Nevada State Champion in 3 out of 8 rated tournament games. I both play and teach chess actively nowadays.
Elementary Math

I am patient, creative, and logical in my teaching of mathematics. I taught an advanced 2nd grader in elementary math for one year. I also taught various grades of elementary school math while substitute teaching for elementary grades for one year. In the last month, I have taught kindergarten math, 3rd grade math, and 6th grade math to 4 students in a homeschooled family.
