Nice to meet you fellow scholars!

I am James, a Master’s student in Computer Science at UCLA, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with a minor in Mathematics and Bioinformatics. I really want to take a break from school and grow as both a person and a teacher because I plan to become a professor.

Getting into UCLA was one of my proudest moments and I would love to help students get into even better schools. This is an outcome that comes naturally with a passion for learning, which is something I love to foster. I received all A’s in courses and all 5’s on AP tests for Computer Science, Calculus BC, Statistics, and Physics C. I scored a 1560 on the SAT and a 36 on the ACT. I have tutored middle and high school students, and I can confidently teach COMPUTER SCIENCE (PYTHON, JAVA), ANY MATH subject, PHYSICS, and COLLEGE TEST PREP.

I have felt firsthand that the same approach is not effective for all students. For some, my HW really drills in the concepts while for others, it only serves to kill motivation. I am quite flexible and tailor my methods to the student. Nevertheless, a picture is worth a thousand words, and I have found no better method than visualization that cultivates the big picture and develops intuition. This is why I like to ask the student to study visual materials before the lesson and we can refine the details and work on the actual problems together. This method overcomes the various limitations of drawing pictures during the lesson and instills curiosity for the material because the concepts have now transcended the realm of mere symbols.

All the best,

James

Thorough and In Depth Tutor

James is a fantastic tutor who gets to the point and knows his stuff. The hourly sessions are maximized and you're able to get the most out of each lesson. James helped me comprehend physics a lot more in just a span of a lesson. Compared to other tutors, James teaches double the amount of content while simultaneously being thorough. He will make sure you understand it along the way as he asks you questions.

knowledgeable and patient tutor

James is a very kind and patient tutor, my son says he explains the concepts very clearly to him. He's always on time, even asks us to send my son's homework before the lesson so he can look at it and prepare for the lesson. He is a very responsible tutor and my son loves his tutoring lesson.
