Bio

I went to Harvard (Biology major, graduated cum laude). My day job is in investment banking/consulting, but I've always been passionate about education. So I started teaching and tutoring students on the side. Parents love what I do because I am laser focused on results and helping students achieve their very best academic work. Students love working with me because I take the time to listen and understand where they're coming from and I explain difficult concepts in a simple way.

"Dear Gil, We cannot thank you enough for the help and great support you gave Yousef during the last few months. Yousef enjoyed your tutoring, he learned a lot academically and picked up good learning skills and valuable test taking tips that will help him and stay with for the rest of his life. He was prepared for the test and can't wait for the results. Of course we will keep you updated on the test results. Please stay in touch and I am sure Yousef would love to hear from you as well." - Paul and Mejda L (Parents) "Hi Gil, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you again for all the wonderful work you did with Sonya. "Hi Gil, As a teacher myself, I was ecstatic to hear you pushing Wyatt, asking him higher level thinking questions. I think you set up a good rapport with Wyatt. He is very smart (IQ of 152) but his strengths lie in the English/Social Science and Art realms. He is a gifted musician who has always struggled with math, especially Algebra, just like I did. With that struggle & the feeling of not doing well in subject, the idea of just giving up on it naturally has come. I appreciate you taking the time to know him and I like your encouraging, yet challenging approach! Thank you!" - Brenda (Parent)

Recent review: "Gilmore is an excellent tutor in everything college prep. He gave me great tips for my SAT and has also helped me craft and perfect my common app college essay. He gives valuable insight from a critical point of view in order to maximize improvement. He does more than correct simple grammar mistakes; he suggests different ideas, concepts, and details in order to perfect each and every essay. Overall, he is an amazing tutor." Also, I've been on the Harvard admissions committee as as an alumni interviewer for 12 years.
MCAT

MCAT

As a Harvard undergrad and Biology concentration (Class of '03), I took a broad range of classes in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. In college, I tutored fellow classmates and organized study groups. I scored a 36 on my MCAT (95.7-97.2% percentile range), including a 12 in the Physical Sciences section, a 12 on the Biological Sciences Section, and a 12 on the Verbal Section. Subsequently have taught the MCAT in a class setting for a boutique tutoring company and independently as a private tutor (students from Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Colgate, UCI Irvine).

Organic Chemistry

As a Harvard undergrad and Biology concentrator (Class of '03), I took Principles of Organic Chemistry (Chem 17) and Organic Chemistry of Life (Chem 27). Physics

Physics

If you're struggling with Kinematics, Forces, Work & Energy, Electricity & Magnetism, I'd be glad to help. The first time I took Physics, it was a blur of information and I had to really grapple with the new concepts and ideas. The hardest part was learning the new material and then applying it, under pressure, on an exam with completely new problems that were significantly harder than the homework problems. I'm going to help you think about Physics concepts in intuitive ways where even if you have never seen a problem before, you'll be able to unravel it and get to an answer that "makes sense" to you. There is a certain beauty and elegance to Physics, and if I can get at being able to share a shred of appreciation for the subject by working together, that would be a nice bonus too! Let's get started.

[Math 690 (prior 620), Reading 730 (same), Writing 720 (prior 660), Total 2140 (prior 2010)] Great increases in the Math and Writing sections that you helped him in. We are really happy with this score and appreciate the guidance you gave him!!" - DK (Parent)

Statistics

If you're feeling lost in Stats, I totally understand. The first time I ever took Stats, I was completely lost. The formulas didn't make sense and I struggled to remember them, how to apply them, and what was the point of all these different statistical tests...? Also, I had no idea how to work my calculator. I would do things that I had memorized from what my teacher showed me, but I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it. Anyway, the turning point came when I went to Harvard and had to take Stats for my Biology concentration. I was lucky and had an awesome Teaching Fellow (basically the equivalent of an Instructional Assistant at Harvard) leading my section (a small group broken off from the main lecture groups). He presented the material in a way where I GOT what we were doing in Stats, and WHY.

Excellent Results!

My son's SAT score increased by almost 500 points to a 2240! The help Gilmore provided was invaluable. From the very first lesson, we could see results. His knowledge of the subjects and his approach were excellent. I especially appreciated that although Gil is obviously very intelligent, he neither talked down to or over the head of my son. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend his services!

Depth in understanding the material and communication

Gilmore understands the subject material deeply and knows how to communicate it. He is equally comfortable with ACT and SAT material. First class teacher. Much better than others I've worked with.

Knowledgeable and patient Teacher

Excellent teaching skills. Helps the student understand the concepts and asl, helps to achieve the goals of doing really well on the tests. I highly recommend him, as nowadays it’s difficult to find good teachers. I find Gil to be a teacher, not a tutor.

Best Teacher

Hi, Gilmore has a lot of patience and is very reliable and laser focused on results. He works around my son’s crazy schedule and does not waste any time. He got my son’s grade up to an A in AP stats and is helping him with AP Chem and SAT too. I highly recommend Gilmore. He makes it look easy.

Great tutor and work well with kids.

Great tutor and work well with kids. Besides, he is patient and would go over the topics if the kids didn't understand the first time. Great tutor and work well with kids. Besides, he is patient and would go over the topics if the kids didn't understand the first time.
