My academic career has been far from linear, and I have gone through numerous ups and downs as a student. All of these have culminated into me earning two B.S. degrees at Lehigh University in Bioengineering and Computer Science, and gives me a unique perspective into tutoring. I am able to help students through the emotional process of learning in addition to the intellectual process by keeping them encouraged and curious into the coursework. My interdisciplinary background makes me especially effective in subjects like biology, math, statistics, and coding, where students often need help connecting concepts across multiple areas rather than just memorizing formulas.
My academic work is also research experience. I research neuroscience biomaterials and design cell culture systems to model the central nervous system. Through this, I have developed a deep understanding of experimental design, problem solving, scientific writing, data interpretation, and critical thinking. This means that I teach from the perspective of someone who actively applies them in real research. I am especially strong at helping students break down intimidating STEM concepts into manageable steps.
In addition to my academic and research background, I have served as a writing fellow at Lehigh. In fact, over my time in college, I have secured $6000 in research funding with my writing skills. I have spent 2 years helping students and improving their writing skills, which enabled me to communicate clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and help students feel comfortable asking questions without fear of judgment. From this, I understand the vulnerability students can feel when learning new subjects.
I also bring the discipline, resilience, and time-management skills of a Division I athlete, which gives me a unique ability to connect with students who are balancing demanding schedules, extracurriculars, athletics, or high-pressure academic goals.
