I have been tutoring both high school and college students for over 30 years. Right now I am teaching two classes of College Algebra at Truckee Meadows Community College and am an embedded tutor in three statistics classes at American River College. Furtheremore, at the university level I have taught technical math, college algebra, precalculus, business math, calculus, and symbolic logic. I also taught SAT math preparation classes at a private college preparatory school. I have a BA in Mathematics (Southern New Hampshire University), an AB in Economics and Philosophy (University of Georgia) PBK, a MA in Philosophy (University of Georgia) and a MA in Mathematics (Appalachian State University).

For math students: My special areas of teaching expertise include factoring, traditional algebra word problems (e.g., motion, mixture, coins, work), logarithms, sequences and series for precalculus, trigonometry, trigonometric limits, related-rates, optimization, l'Hopital's Rule, Riemann sums, u-substitution, trigonometric integrals, trigonometric substitution, partial fractions, sequences, series convergence tests, mathematical induction, proof-discovery strategies, and formal proof writing.

For logic students: My special areas of expertise include effective truth-table construction, truth trees, "Fitch" style proof systems (intelim rules with scope lines) , the natural deduction software products called "Fitch" and "Carnap," techniques for constructing proofs, translating English into symbolic code, basic set theory, categorical syllogisms, and Existential Graphs.

When I am not tutoring, I am often either studying chess tactics or writing books to help math and logic students. I have several books that are available on Amazon.

Thank you Teresa!

Really smart and knowledgeable

You can tell his passion for the material instantly. Inexplicably his hourly rate is relatively speaking low, which makes me think he is only tutoring for the love of the game. Highly recommended

Very nice and patient

Richard was so great with my 16 year old son. He was in need of help preparing for a test in Integrated 2. He was able to learn what he needed to and pass his test

Caring and professional teacher!

He is considerate and teaches well step by step. Also, it was good that they took notes so that my son could understand well even though it was an online class.

Very helpful!

Richard was very helpful with my Algebra class. He is patient and takes each problem step by step at a pace that worked for me. I would work with him again in the future.

Patient and fun tutor

Richard was one of a couple logic tutors I found who understood the type of logic I'm trying to learn and could communicate it well. It's a complex subject and while other tutors attempted to teach me a new way to do it (confusing me far more), he met me where I was and worked to help me learn the concepts the way I need to for my class. I'm super grateful that he took the time to familiarize with what I needed.
