About Raul

Bio

As a tutor and professor I have over 20 years of experience teaching students in math and science. Also, I'm a graduate from UC San Diego with a Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear astrophysics. Before that I also completed an A.A. in Computer & Information Science and a B.A. in Physics with minor in Mathematics. My general approach is that practice makes perfect! However, it is important to start with an assessment of the students needs and abilities, and make a plan from there.

Approved Subjects

Fortran

Fortran

Initially in college, I obtained an associate's degree in computer science and transferred, where I learned computer logic and structure along with various programming languages like C++ and Java. Then I changed my major to physics, where I focused on research projects involving computer modeling and equation solving. During this time I became proficient in coding Fortran and Python, as these are commonly used by physicists.
Mathematica

Mathematica

As a student, tutor and part-time instructor, I have used various computer algebra software programs to help with classwork and research including Mathematica and Matlab. I consider myself a power user of Mathematica because not only do I use it to solve equations and plot graphs and other visuals, but I also have coded in Mathematica's native language to compute astrophysical for my research (weak nuclear force transitions in stars) with parallelism included. I'm also familiar with it's document creation capabilities to present work. As a teacher I often use Mathematica to show students interesting dynamic examples of math and physics solutions.
