Hello!
I am working on a masters degree in instructional science and technology. I love teaching and learning!

My main subjects are Spanish and English. I also tutor math and chemistry through approximately the middle school or early high school level.
I really love helping learners with writing and edit essays, poems, and general prose in both Spanish and English. I also have a lot of fun with conversation practice. I am a native English speaker born in California, USA, and speak Spanish as a second language.
What makes me a great tutor is that I have technical ability and empathy in about equal measure. I know how to meet you where you are, with both your experience level, prior knowledge, and your style of communication. I am very patient, and I work step by step alongside you to make sure you are comfortable. I am happy to work together in whatever way works best for you, whether you want to dig deep into problems and exercises, have a casual language practice conversation, or other.
I have experience with children and adult learners who are learning a foreign language while in their home country, as well as with immigrants, refugees, and visitors who are learning English as a second language.
I have also worked in a tutoring center where I helped students in elementary, middle, and high school in various subjects.
I have been through it all, from honors classes in high school, to community college, to graduating with honors from a difficult University of California school. I have even been through a change of majors from the hard sciences to social sciences, so I have background in both. I studied abroad for one year in Spain where I took most of my coursework in Spanish. I have a BA in anthropology and a TEFL certificate.

Extensive Spanish grammar study, which informs my native language as well. I love doing sentence diagrams!

Often native speakers have not studied their own grammar. I speak Spanish as a second language and have been through all course levels from grammar up through college Spanish literature. I can help explain the WHY, not just the WHAT, and help you excel in your courses.
