My name is Hillary! I am a current High School Biology and Environmental Science teacher with eleven years of experience. Teaching science is my passion. Throughout my years of teaching, I have found that students benefit from laboratory experiments and projects that reflect real-world scenarios that are conducted in small group or as an individual. In addition, receiving one-on-one instruction helps to identify areas of need and bridge those gaps.
When I am working with students, the first thing I do is identify what their needs are, whether it be on test preparation or homework assignments. Then, I work with the student and their family to develop a program to ensure their continued success in Biology or Environmental Science. Throughout the tutoring sessions, we will continually evaluate progress and revise goals as necessary.
Prior to teaching, I attended San Jose State University, where I graduated with a B.A. in Biological Sciences, and University of California Irvine, where I graduated with my Single Subject Teaching Credential and M.A. in Teaching. I hold a valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential with Life Science Authorization. I am an expert in the Next Generation Science Standards and the Common Core Standards.
My goal, as a tutor, is to work with families to meet the needs of each student, whether it is developing study skills, completing homework assignments, or reviewing for assessments. I want each student to succeed and meet their goals. I look forward to connecting with you. If you have any questions or want to schedule a lesson, feel free to reach out.
