Hi there!
My name is Aman. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in English and an emphasis in Creative Writing, and obtained an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University. I have worked as a writing, English, and public speaking tutor for 10+ years.
The foundation of my teaching experience was build over four years at California Educational Centers in Cerritos, CA. I taught English Comprehension, English Language Arts, Essay Writing, Public Speaking, Speech/Debate, and SAT Prep for the reading and writing sections. I also personally designed and instructed high school level creative writing programs, and provided college preparation and personal statement workshops. As a graduate from Whitney High School, I also helped elementary school students prepare for STAR testing and the Whitney writing exam.
In 2015-2016, I worked at The College Board in New York, the leading non-profit organization in higher education. As the creators of SAT exams and AP classes, I came to understand the ins and outs of standardized testing. In the years after, I worked as a writing and spoken word instructor at New Earth Organization, which predominately focuses on giving incarcerated or at-risk youth tools to excel in their limited learning environment. I also worked as a Teaching Artist and Manager of Education at Get Lit - Words Ignite, a youth literacy non-profit in Los Angeles.
I am a nationally touring writer and poet, TEDx Speaker, and activist/educator. I specialize my private tutoring sessions to not only help students do well academically, but also gain confidence in the work that they produce. For me, teaching is about understanding my students and what works for them. It means they have 100% of my attention and the constant reinforcement that they are bright, worthy, and capable.
If you have any questions or would like to schedule me for a session, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
