I am currently a Graduate Assistant and Writing Tutor at California State University, San Bernardino, where I work, and have worked for the past three years, directly with college students on improving their writing skills. In this role, I help students strengthen structure, clarity, grammar, formatting, and overall organization, and I have also designed and led workshops on topics such as MLA 9, APA 7, and essay outlining. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from CSUSB with a 4.0 GPA (summa cum laude) and am now continuing in the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program, where I have maintained the same high level of academic performance. My broader educational background also includes training in communications, English composition, critical analysis, public speaking, and creative arts.
My tutoring approach is flexible, student-centered, and responsive to the individual. I begin by identifying how a student learns best and what stage they are in within the writing process, whether that is brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, proofreading, or formatting. Depending on the student’s needs, I use step-by-step explanation, guided revision, visual association, mnemonic devices, and helpful online resources. I also make a point of explaining the reasoning behind my recommendations so students can develop confidence and apply those skills independently in future assignments.
My direct tutoring experience has primarily been with college-level students in one-on-one and academic support settings, though I am open to working with a wider range of learners. In addition to tutoring, I have worked in student-facing support roles that required patience, communication, and flexibility with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Altogether, my experience has prepared me to tutor in essay writing, grammar, proofreading, writing, and public speaking with both professionalism and compassion.
