Hi, I'm Michael.
I help students build confidence in math by breaking down topics and making them easier to understand. I get my students involved as much as possible. I always have them teach problems back to me. One of the best ways to learn is to dive right in.

I studied biology at the University of California, Merced for four years. I built a strong foundation in math, science, and problem-solving. I was awarded the Chancellor’s Honors List after my first year.

During my second year, I volunteered at the Suitcase Clinic at Berkeley. I did feet-washing and I escorted homeless people up to see the doctor. This experience opened my eyes to the harsh realities of the world. I learned to listen to stories and extend my hand to those in need.

I also volunteered as a Research Assistant at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Francisco. I worked with a Nephrologist and assisted in conducting exercise trials for patients with kidney disease.

My third summer at UC Merced, I was accepted into the COINS Research Program (Center for Integrated NanoMechanical Systems). My team synthesized a new type of polymer that can be bent and relaxed upon stimulation, leading to an electrical output.

These opportunities helped shape my views and character. Tutoring is not just a job. I want the future generations to be able to think. I want them to have some understanding of how the world works. There are many powerful people who dictate how our world works. Education is our last stand against tyranny. It is a precursor to meaningful action.

I tutored a grade 8 student in pre-algebra during my final year of high school. In college, I was thrilled to find myself helping friends with homework. As I tutored, I learned how important it is to try and see the world from their eyes. We all have a hand in the planet, but we are also each a different person.
