About Basir

My main area of expertise is mathematics but I am available for tutoring physics as well. I have a degree in math. I was top of my class in calculus 1, calculus 3 and linear algebra. I have studied physics extensively, 3 semesters at a university level which encompassed everything from kinematics and motion to electricity and magnetism to relativity and quantum physics. I have been tutoring for 10 years. In high school I tutored math and chemistry. Since then I have been independently tutoring math, physics, chemistry and have been helping students with SAT and ACT test prep.

I thoroughly enjoy tutoring. I am very patient and my main goal is the student's ability to understand the material, not just memorize formulas for an exam. It is with understanding that a student builds confidence and knows how to use and manipulate any math problem, or problem in any field, that comes his/her way. I enjoy seeing a student brighten up when they learn something new and are able to solve a once difficult problem. I have been independently tutoring for a long time and over the years I have learned how to explain an idea in different ways. Some ways work for some students but not every way works for all students so I have come up with a different way to explain some problems and their solutions. I am able to think quickly and find ways to shed light on a problem a student is having a tough time grasping. It is my aim to help the young minds of our future excel in academics!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have helped students better their ACT and SAT scores for a few years now, I have an understanding of how those tests work. I have built strategies that help students improve their scores and build confidence.

Algebra 1

I have earned a degree in mathematics. I have been tutoring for 10 years and specialize in understanding the material, not just remembering formulas to pass a test. I know how to adjust to a student's learning style if they are having difficulty understanding the material.

Algebra 2

I have an associates degree in math earned through Mira Costa College. I have been tutoring university level math for many years. I have learned many ways to help teach a student math, l know all students do not learn the same and different approaches to the material are necessary for understanding.

Calculus

I have earned an associates degree in math while I was attending Mira Costa College. I finished top of my class in Calc 1 and Calc 3. I have tutored many students in differential, integral, and multivariable Calculus and am fluent with the material.

Linear Algebra

I have earned an AS-T in Mathematics from Mira Costa College. Linear Algebra is the highest math they teach at that school and is a requirement for the AS-T in Mathematics. I finished with the highest grade in my class. I have also tutored Linear Algebra for some time now.

SAT Math

I have been helping students achieve a high score on both the SAT and ACT for a few years now. I am very familiar with the testing style and have developed strategies not only for staying focused and remaining confident but also to beat the time restraint.

1st semester review for final

Basir was a great help reviewing math for a semester final. He was easy to understand and thorough. My son found the two hours really helpful. Basir responded quickly to our request for a tutor and could fit us into his schedule right away. He arrived on time and covered a lot of material in the two hour session.
