With a lifelong passion for education, I believe learning should be a joyful and rewarding experience. I take pride in creating an environment where students feel motivated and excited to reach their highest potential. My teaching philosophy centers on helping students achieve their goals, whether that means mastering a challenging subject or building confidence in their abilities.

I began tutoring at 16 and have worked professionally in the field since 2002. I've had the pleasure of teaching at Futures Academy, Seashore Academy, and Manzanita School, where I've sharpened my skills in creating personalized, engaging lessons for students of all ages. I bring extensive experience in Direct Instruction, Differentiated Instruction, Experiential Learning, Play-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, and Collaborative Learning, and I frequently incorporate the Socratic Method to engage my students in critical thinking and meaningful dialogue.

Learning can be a joyful adventure! Together, we’ll unlock your student's potential, master challenges, and build confidence. I’m excited to be your guide on this rewarding journey—let’s make the educational experience both engaging and fun!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I began tutoring Algebra 1 to my peers when I took the course myself in the seventh grade; I was even granted the privilege of teaching the class for a day! I am able to break down the concepts in a way that makes them easier for students to understand, while having a little fun in the process. While I teach Math from elementary through Algebra 2, approximately 20% of my students every year are Algebra 1. Mastery of Algebra 1 is essential for success in subsequent Math courses, so I ensure that all of my students have solid comprehension in this subject.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I began tutoring Algebra 2 to my peers in high school while taking the course myself. I have a demonstrated history of successfully taking students who struggle with Math in general through Algebra 2 successfully - I had one such student last year who received a 100% in the entire class! I have even helped college-level Algebra 2 students taking the course online (with no instructor) and nursing students working through their RN program. My students always achieve high marks!
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I began working with elementary school students when I was in eleventh grade; leading an after school program where my colleagues and I tutored students at a neighboring school with their Reading (verbal skills, vocabulary, comprehension) and Math. At any given time, 30-40% of my students are K-6. I have worked with students as young as 4, including children with disabilities (ADD, dyslexia, poor vision, anxiety, autism) in all of the following elementary subjects: - Reading (Phonics) - Language (Vocabulary, Grammar, Writing, Spelling) - Science - Study Skills (Organization, Time Management, Test Preparation) - Math I create a safe and fun learning environment where students are able to overcome obstacles to achieve their fullest potential.

English

I have been helping people with their English skills since high school, when I conducted both peer and elementary school tutoring with Key Club International. I have worked with students as young as 4 all the way up to adult level ESL on a diverse range of English skills: - Verbal - Phonics - Vocabulary - Spelling - Grammar - Reading Comprehension - Writing (Structure, Format, Organization, Analysis)
Geometry

Geometry

I began tutoring Geometry to my peers when I took the course myself. I am able to break down the concepts in a way that makes them easier for students to understand, while overcoming the primary obstacle in Geometry - which is mastering Geometric Proofs. Last year, I had five Geometry students - ranging from a 7th grade student in an experimental class, to a high school Honors Geometry student, and even one who took an online course with no teacher. With the proper guidance and instruction, of my students ultimately achieve success in Geometry to their fullest potential.
Literature

Literature

I have been helping people with their English skills since high school, when I conducted both peer and elementary school tutoring with Key Club International. I have worked extensively with students struggling to comprehend old classics from the literary canon and partnered with them in developing their related analytical and writing skills. I have given primary instruction at the high school level in conjunction with accredited homeschool program curricula. I have also collaborated virtually with college students in other states to strengthen their academic papers.

An incredible tutor, a wise person

Jessica has been tutoring my god-daughter for months now which allows me to write with confidence about her enormous skill as a tutor. She was brought on to help with math primarily, but also to assist in all subjects and help boost self-confidence in this new world of 6th grade. Jessica quickly became a touchstone for my god-daughter -- a person of wisdom and knowledge, kindness and fun -- which doesn't mean she doesn't get down brilliantly to the business of school work. Jessica's experience as a teacher means she's flat-out spectacular at tutoring. There's seemingly no subject she's uncomfortable diving into, and her ability to impart sometimes complex topics in a clear and graspable manner is really impressive. My god-daughter's confidence in herself as a student in a new school has sky-rocketed. More than even that, Jessica has become a source of stability, connection, and friendship for her. I feel incredibly lucky to have found Jessica. She's 100% the real deal.

Results!!!

My son was in desperate need of a tutor because he’s been getting D’s and F’s on his math tests. I booked Jessica to get him some help the night before one of his tests. They went over the study guide and all the material they’ve been going over in class in prep for the test. The next day CJ came home with a B on his test. Super happy with those results!!! I hope to hire Jessica again!!

Great Tutor

Jessica has been doing a great job with our 4th grade son, he hasn't improved a lot and is able to much better understand the needed skills. He has performed much better on his quizzes and tests as well. Jessica comes prepared with great lesson plans and shows great interest in helping him succeed. She also leaves great feedback after each lesson and is honest in the feedback. Wish we could have found her sooner.
