Hello, I am Kestia! But you are welcome to call me Kes as well. I recently graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a 4.0 GPA. My preferred students are in middle school, high school, and college. But I am happy to make exceptions depending on circumstances. I am skilled primarily in reading, writing, English literature, social studies, history, and biology. At the college level, I focus on cultural studies, ethnic studies, linguistics, archaeology, sociology, political science, writing, and the humanities.
I do not have much formal tutoring experience, but I have spent much of my college career volunteering my time to help other students with their work. I also worked for my community college, where I gained experience working with LGBTQ+ youth and connecting them with resources. Additionally, I spent much of my childhood and adolescence tutoring my younger brother with learning disabilities.
I have a deep love for both learning and teaching, so I aspire to eventually return to my education and become a professor. However, like many students, I struggled a lot during my secondary education due to social stigma and mental health challenges. I know how deeply difficult it can be to be engaged in schoolwork when other issues feel far more pressing. I eventually learned how to manage my wellbeing while also excelling at my academic goals, and my hope is to impart these skills on students who are in similar situations.
I approach tutoring students with depression, anxiety, ADHD, chronic illnesses, and other challenges with understanding and empathy above all else. I have found that the most powerful tool for learning is building a solid foundation of confidence. Therefore, I utilize encouragement and positive reinforcement as much as possible. Everyone is different, so I am more than happy to receive feedback to fine tune my services to exactly what each student needs. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or for scheduling!
