BAR MITZVAH, BAT MITZVAH: I will teach you to read Hebrew, sing the brachot for your Aliyah, and read the haftarah. I can also help with the bar mitzvah (or bat mitzvah) speech and how to lead the prayer services. I always strive to make the experience both fun and meaningful for the student.

CONVERSATIONAL HEBREW: Since Hebrew is my first language, students can be assured they are learning to speak like a native.

BIBLICAL HEBREW: Having studied Biblical Hebrew, I can help students understand the nuances of this ancient language. Biblical Hebrew is like Olde English; If you speak the modern version you can somewhat understand the ancient version -- but there are important differences in vocabulary and grammar.

ABOUT SHARONA: I was born in Israel, served in the Israeli Army, and taught children there before moving to the U.S. and raising my four children. I graduated from U.C. Berkeley, where I studied Hebrew Literature and Jewish Studies. Both my grandfathers were rabbis, so I grew up in an observant home and continue that tradition today. I love working with both children and adults!

Beyond complete fluency, I also studied grammar, Biblical Hebrew, and Israeli literature. I have tutored students in conversational Hebrew and to prepare for Bar Mitzvah for over 10 years. Prior to that I have several years experience teaching young children and raising four of my own.

Very enjoyable knowledgeable teacher

Sharona is a great fit for my teen daughter's Hebrew lessons. My daughter's confidence and excitement to learn has increased so much under Sharona's instruction. It has only been 3 weeks, with only 1 lesson a week and she is already learning to read 2 and 3 letter words. Thank you Sharona for being so kind easy going teacher and for giving her such a wonderful experience.

Knowledgeable and fun instructor!

I have had 3 lessons with Sharona and she was able to pick up my level of Hebrew very quickly and teach me accordingly. As an Israeli, she provides the experience of talking to a native speaker yet still is able to explain how the grammar and syntax works—a very unique skill! She also makes the lessons engaging and is very patient. Would highly recommend for anyone trying to improve their conversational Hebrew!
