Hello! Thank you for visiting my profile. I go by Zach and I have over 5 years of experience working with students ages K-12. I received my B.A. in history from National University after transferring from Vassar College where I studied for my freshman and sophomore years. My strongest areas are preparing for AP tests and final exams in US History, World History, Economics, Political Science, and Psychology.
Currently, I am an English teaching assistant at a secondary school in Seville, Spain. In my previous positions, I coached a variety of sports through the non-profit Manhattan Youth and was a substitute teacher for the City School of the Arts in New York City. Prior to working in New York City, I worked with renowned youth development organizations including the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and the Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center (HTASC). During my time with the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club, I developed lesson plans, personally led activities with large groups of students, and strengthened communication skills with kids and teens. While at HTASC, I served as one of three teachers in an after-school tutoring center for low-income students. All of these positions have given me a variety of methods to best cater to students' individualized needs and create personalized plans for students to define and reach their goals.
In addition to the professional experience listed above, I have also volunteered for the past three years as a remote tutor for Ukrainian students learning English, establishing weekly routines to expand student vocabulary and grammar skills with each session. As a Vassar Urban Education Fellow, I worked directly with students as a classroom assistant for history classes at Poughkeepsie High School.
I pride myself on meeting each student’s individual way of learning and developing a system that works for students on their terms. I am easy to reach and always provide quick responses!
