Hi, my name is Freda. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2019 with a B.A. in Chemistry. I specialize in chemistry (high-school/AP level and college-level intro general chemistry) and SAT prep.

I started off college as a biology major and didn't really have any interest in chemistry as a subject. General Chemistry was just a course I had to "get through" as a biology major. But then I met a couple of amazing grad students/TAs who were super supportive and served as excellent teachers and mentors. Through them, I learned that chemistry could be fun and exciting and ended up switching my major. My favorite chemistry course was quantum chemistry, which gets some interesting reactions from people, but it's the topic that made me think chemistry was actually maybe really cool.

Reflecting on my college experience, I understand the importance of having someone who can help you see a subject from a different point of view. Instead of treating a problem set as endless number-crunching, it's important to help develop a sense of curiosity for how things work conceptually. My goal is to help students develop the confidence to succeed in their classes and cultivate an interest in subjects that previously may have seemed uninteresting. I believe it's important to meet students where they're at and help them understand underlying concepts, eliminating the need to "memorize" how to solve a problem for a test.

High school and college are hard with the need to balance so many different classes. I'm looking forward to helping students lighten their loads by making at least one subject more manageable or even enjoyable. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
