I'm Jason Rose, a Senior Lecturer in the Editing discipline at the American Film Institute Conservatory. I also teach regularly at KeyCode Education in Burbank and for StudioArts Online. With more than 30 years of professional experience as an editor, colorist, producer, and filmmaker, I bring real-world insight into every lesson. I hold a Bachelor of Science in TV/Film from Texas Christian University and a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television from Mount Saint Mary's University. I am a certified instructor in Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, and I've spent nearly 20 years training editors and filmmakers across a wide range of skill levels.
My approach to teaching is practical, patient, and focused on building real skills you can use immediately. Whether you're just starting out or looking to strengthen your workflow in a specific NLE, I tailor each session to your goals and current level. As a practicing filmmaker and storyteller, I have written, produced, and directed original projects, including the 36-episode lifestyle series Livin’ SoCal and Livin’ Hawaii, and I am currently developing and pitching the supernatural crime procedural Neon Shadows as writer, director, and showrunner. My professional experience spans more than 30 years across narrative, documentary, reality, and lifestyle genres, with collaborations involving major networks and studios such as NBCUniversal, ABC/Disney, and Lifetime. I am passionate about mentoring emerging filmmakers and have taught hands-on filmmaking workshops for high school students through KeyCode Education, as well as specialized classes in AI-assisted filmmaking that integrate traditional storytelling with modern generative tools. I have developed and teach a comprehensive 16-hour (4-night) “AI – Script to Screen” course that takes students from initial script ideation using large language models such as ChatGPT, through concept art and image generation with Midjourney, video creation and animation with Runway, audio and voice synthesis with ElevenLabs, to final editing and assembly in Premiere Pro. As an instructor for KeyCode Education and StudioArts, I create and deliver hands-on classes and workshops that demystify generative AI tools for filmmakers and editors while emphasizing practical, cost-effective workflows that integrate these technologies with traditional post-production pipelines. My instruction draws directly from professional filmmaking experience, where I apply the same tools for concept art, storyboarding, pre-visualization, and rapid prototyping on original projects such as the supernatural series Neon Shadows. I also offer specialized programs, including an 8-hour AI Post-Production workshop covering seamless integration with Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and audio tools like ElevenLabs. Through project-based assignments such as short commercials and narrative films, students learn prompt engineering, workflow optimization, and how to maintain creative control and authentic storytelling when using AI as a powerful assistant.

As a television producer, I have created, produced, directed, and edited my own multi-season lifestyle series, including Livin’ Hawaii and the related Livin’ SoCal program that spanned 36 episodes. My professional experience extends across more than 30 years of broadcast, reality television, documentary, lifestyle, and narrative projects, with credits as producer, online editor, and post-production lead on network and streaming content for NBCUniversal, ABC/Disney, Lifetime, and other outlets in collaboration with companies such as Bunim/Murray and Asylum Entertainment. I am dedicated to mentoring the next generation and have taught filmmaking and production workshops for high school students through KeyCode Education while also developing and delivering classes that prepare emerging professionals for real-world television environments. My teaching emphasizes practical, project-based learning across the full production pipeline—from concept development and pitching through production, post, and delivery—drawing directly from my own experience creating and delivering original series content.
