I am a Korean filmmaker based in Los Angeles, originally trained in Korea and later earning my MFA in Cinematography from the AFI Conservatory. Through my academic and professional journey in both Korea and the United States, I have developed a deep understanding of language as a tool for communication and cultural expression.

In addition to my professional career in the film industry, I have experience teaching and mentoring students, including working with high school students in Korea as an instructor. I have also guided international peers and creative collaborators in storytelling and communication development. I work with learners of various ages and levels, from beginners to advanced speakers, primarily in one-on-one settings. My approach is conversational and story-centered, helping students build confidence by expressing meaningful ideas rather than memorizing isolated grammar rules.

I believe language ability grows when a student genuinely wants to tell their own story. In my lessons, we explore topics from your own life — your interests, experiences, and goals — and build Korean around them. This approach encourages natural fluency, cultural awareness, and authentic expression. Whether online or in person in Los Angeles, I aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to each student’s needs.

I am an MFA graduate of the AFI Conservatory and have guided multiple students through the U.S. film school admissions process, including AFI, USC, NYU, Columbia, and Chapman. My consulting experience includes portfolio development, personal statement feedback, and full application strategy. Several of the students I mentored were accepted into top programs, including AFI Conservatory (MFA), USC (MFA), and Korean National University of Arts(BA). I focus not only on strengthening creative portfolios but also on helping applicants articulate a clear artistic identity and long-term vision. Having experienced the competitive admissions process myself, I provide practical insight into what top film programs are truly looking for. I work closely with students in one-on-one sessions, offering structured feedback and strategic guidance tailored to each applicant’s background and goals.

Korean

I am a native Korean speaker with professional experience working in both Korea and the United States. I earned my MFA from the AFI Conservatory and previously worked as an instructor teaching high school students in Korea. My teaching approach focuses on communication, storytelling, and real-life context rather than isolated grammar drills. I believe language develops most naturally when students are motivated to express their own thoughts and experiences. I work with beginners to advanced learners and tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, whether for travel, business, cultural interest, or creative purposes. Lessons are available both online and in person in Los Angeles.
