About Jed

Bio

I've been teaching and coaching in theater, television, film, literature, journalism, and civics / debate for over 25 years. I've taught at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in Los Angeles; Emerson College L.A. Program; Guest Director at Chapman University; Examiner for the International Baccalaureate; Michelle Danner Acting Studio; Identity School of Acting (IDSA); and virtually teach film, voice, and speech courses domestically and internationally. I've been teaching and coaching in theater, television, film, literature, journalism, and civics / debate for over 25 years. I've taught at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in Los Angeles; Emerson College L.A. Program; Guest Director at Chapman University; Examiner for the International Baccalaureate; Michelle Danner Acting Studio; Identity School of Acting (IDSA); and virtually teach film, voice, and speech courses domestically and internationally. I received my MFA from Roosevelt University (Chicago); second Master’s in Specialized Journalism from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism; BFA from Emerson College (Boston) under the guidance of Kristen Linklater and members of Shakespeare & Company; and recently completed my first year of PhD research.

I'm currently an actor and improviser at Universal Studios Hollywood. I was also national television and radio spokesman for the award-winning commercial campaign, Rolling Rock Beer (Anheuser-Busch). Other notable television credits and commercial campaigns include Nickelodeon, Oxygen, Discovery, Walgreens, Meijer, Amazon, Pepsi, Spectrum, and Walmart among others. I've done voice and face work for Rockstar Games, Toyota, EA Studios, Netflix, and The Zach Sang Show. I'm currently in post-production for the upcoming film "Birth of the Black Underworld" directed by Matty Rich and starring Frank Stallone. Other credits include Rooster in the national tour of Annie (directed by original creator and lyricist Martin Charnin), and Hades in Hercules The Muse-ical (Disney Cruise Line).

I like to make my tutoring sessions a combination of a creative approach with the actual work needed completing. I can also tailor-make any session to suit the needs of the student(s). For example, when I taught an online course to teenagers who were learning English, I gave them a choice of well-known movies to explore between the language tied to what they're learning and how the movie was made.

I've been teaching Voice & Speech, Dialects, and Accent Reduction for over 15+ years. Professionally, I use dialects and accents for both television and voiceover projects utilizing the skills I use to teach. My last Accent Reduction course comprised of students from France, China, Japan, Turkey, Italy, and Russia.

I've worked in film, television, commercials, voiceover, and theater for over 30 years. I'm also an adjunct college professor having taught and guest directed at AMDA College, IDSA, Emerson College LA Program, and Chapman University. I'm a current member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA, and AGVA and have served on various union and negotiation committees. I currently work at Universal Studios Hollywood and recently completed a Netflix documentary.

I'm currently adjunct faculty teaching courses in American and British Literature including courses in American Civics & Government, Oral Interpretation & Debate, and Journalism.

This past year I was adjunct faculty teaching Honors English in American and British Literature covering classics ranging from the Middle Ages through Contemporary Literature (20th and 21st Centuries). Analysis included the historical context tied to contemporary issues and topics; the syntax and style of the language itself; and English composition styles and research based on the reading. Specific projects I had the students work on to better comprehend classics such as "Jane Eyre," "Macbeth," "Beowulf," "The Joy Luck Club," and "1984" were Escape Rooms. There were guidelines they had to follow, which incorporated both building the escape room with props, scenery, sound, video, etc., tied to character, historical context, and plot points within the novels. Groups had both online and in-person escape rooms. I am able to help create a similar project for those students looking for creativity tied to the novels they're currently reading. This will be part of the hourly fee with nothing on top of the current rate.

This past year I served as Adjunct Faculty teaching American and British Literature for 10th and 11th Honors English including 9th Regular English. A variety of writing styles were covered from expository, persuasive / argumentative, and creative. For the tougher pieces of literature, creative assignments were utilized such as the student placing themselves within the time period and described their surroundings or characters they met; or at times I let the student create an alternate ending to each novel they read.

This past year I was adjunct faculty teaching both civics courses in government and policy and debate: Lincoln/Douglas [presidential] debate format and Four Corner debate format—one which forces the speaker to take a stand on a position prior to the beginning of the debate. My first year of approved PhD research through LSBU in London is also in Performance Activism in the Creative Arts & Industries.

During the pandemic from 2020-2022, I taught remotely children K-6th in the Arts and TESOL / Public Speaking / Accent Reduction. This included children from around the United States and countries such as China, Turkey, Russia, France, and England. I've also taught this age group in person from 2010 through the present day specifically Theater and English / Reading tutoring.

I've been working in the Film and Television Industry for 20+ years. I've been National Television and Radio Spokesman for various commercial campaigns, appeared on major sitcoms, and just completed a new film with Frank Stallone directed by Matty Rich. I'm an adjunct professor having taught film and tv courses at Identity School of Acting, Emerson College L.A. Program, Michelle Danner, among different conservatories. I've also been a contributing writer on the subject for film critic Emanuel Levy.

Great tutor

My daughter has been taking forensic storytelling lesson from Jed. He is encouraging, supportive and professional. He did quite a bit homework preparing for the first lesson and was able to spot key improvement areas right away. He provides feedback to my daughter after every lesson and keeps us the parents informed of the progress. We are lucky to have him coach my daughter.
