I'm Alejandra, a playwright and dramaturg with a background in academic and creative writing across international contexts. I completed my secondary education through the IGCSE and IB programmes, including Higher Level English Literature and Theatre. I hold a BFA in Directing with Honors from The New School's School of Drama, and I now work professionally as a dramaturg and playwright, analyzing scripts and developing writers' work.
My tutoring has been one-on-one and online. One adult student, a data-driven project manager preparing for a career move, had self-assessed as a beginner on her intake form, but I found her actual fluency was much higher; her real obstacle was register, not ability, so we worked on shifting from casual, direct-translation phrasing into polished professional English for meetings, negotiations, and job interviews, alongside recurring grammar patterns like article use and past tense. A second adult student, already advanced, was closer to a C1 to C2 level and wanted refine his casual conversation, and build confidence rather than fundamentals.
I've also tutored a fifteen-year-old IB student on an original full-length play written as her CAS project, building a curriculum from scratch and researching historical and feminist source material and comparable playwrights to strengthen her craft. Across these students, ranging from teenagers to working adults, I tailor each session to where a student actually is rather than what a form says, and I track progress against concrete goals over multiple months rather than teaching generically.
