About Cecily

Bio

I have many years of experience teaching young people and adults, and have a passion for motivating and engaging youth and adults one-in-one in inspiring learning experiences. Few things are as meaningful and energizing to me as encouraging students to have faith in themselves, persevere and improve their skills. I'm constantly thinking of what makes learning more effective and more enjoyable, both through my experiences and continuing study.

I have eight years of experience teaching TEFL/TESL, including two years' experience teaching English full-time to students aged 10-adult in China where I received a second TEFL certificate as well as extensive on-the-job training. I taught students in classes from 1 to 30 people. I taught from given materials, books and PowerPoint, and also created and taught my own classes, including a year-long course in American Culture.

I currently work in a public elementary school teaching children with a specific learning disability. I teach mostly fluency and writing to students in grades 2-5. I also teach some reading comprehension, morphology, phonics, word problems and math.

I started studying French as a child and have spent time in France and in French-speaking Switzerland. I am currently teaching French to beginners.

Thank you for viewing my tutor profile. I look forward to working with you.

Knowledgeable, organized, easy to schedule

Hi Cecily is tutoring my 13yo son in French. She has been excellent on many levels. She has taught my son how to study for a language- flash cards, conjugation practice and writing the words and phrases to make sure he learns spelling. Cecily is friendly calm and makes it fun. She has been very responsive to emails and scheduling making it very easy to work with her.

Knowledgeable and patient teacher.

Cecily is able to make writing and working on stories so much for my 2nd grader. When I tried to teach him, it always ended up in a fight but he is looking forward to her lessons even after a whole zoom school day. His writing, spelling and the ability to grab his thoughts into words improved immensely. Thank you!

Patient and Engaging

This was our initial meeting with Cecily, my daughter loved meeting with her. She was warm, engaging, and kept pace with my 8-year-olds excited mind and tangents.

Great fun!

Cecily provides great feedback on pronouncing correctly and helps me put together sentences from the new words and concepts that we review. I feel like I am learning a great deal even though I only have a little time to study. Cecily and I went over a family postcard in French from 1914 that we found among a box of family letters. She helped me to understand it slowly even with my extremely basic French. This was very exciting!

A very kind, patient, and knowledgeable tutor. Helped my sister in law who was visiting for a week from Toronto. Was flexible to accommodate last minute requests. Highly recommended. A+

Nice Tutor

I think the first meeting went off to a good start. My daughter said she was very helpful and looks forward to working with her more. She went over the lessons that they were learning in school along with some basics. We look forward to having her again.

Dedicated French Tutor

Cecily taught me French. She was creative and came up with a lot of different methods for adult learning (pictures on a clip board, songs etc) which helped me a lot. She was patient to wait until I constructed a sentence and helped me to correct it when needed. I recommend Cecily as a teacher.

Good, reliable tutor

I had one session with Cecily to review two papers. She helped me with grammar issues and develop ideas properly. She was on time and helped me improve my papers. Her rate is fair for what she offers.
