My background is in engineering at Tsinghua University in China, and I am currently a graduate student studying physics at the University of California, Berkeley. My studies have given me a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and their engineering applications. I tutor middle school, high school, and introductory college mathematics and physics, including algebra, geometry, calculus, linear algebra, mechanics, and electricity and magnetism. I enjoy helping students connect abstract ideas to concrete examples and understand why a method works.
I have previously tutored students preparing for mathematics competitions in China. Competition problems often require students to look beyond familiar formulas, recognize patterns, and explore different approaches. In my tutoring, I aim to help students develop these habits while strengthening the fundamentals they need for their regular coursework. Whether a student is working through a challenging problem or reviewing a basic concept, my goal is to make the reasoning clear and manageable.
My approach is patient, interactive, and tailored to each student's goals. I start by asking students to explain what they understand and where they get stuck. From there, we work through an example together, using diagrams, physical intuition, or step-by-step reasoning as appropriate. I then encourage students to try a related problem and explain their approach in their own words. Rather than simply providing answers, I want to help students build the confidence and problem-solving skills to work independently. I welcome questions and aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.
