Hello, Howdy, and Salutations! My name's Hannah, and I'm a third year undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Physics. I've worked as a tutor since high school, and I've taught in various settings, from online to the classroom, and I've worked with many kinds of students ranging from elementary schoolers to college undergraduates. I've also taught a variety of subjects, though my strong suit is Math.
In previous tutoring roles, I've worked as an assistant in lower division college math classes, primarily ones that taught Algebra 1. Over multiple semesters, I worked with math professors to help convey the curriculum to the class. During lecture, I would aid the professor by supplementing lectures as necessary by answering questions or adding additional notes on the board. I would also host review sessions where students could bring homework questions, ask any conceptual questions, or work on review questions I ask.
Throughout my time teaching, I've had the chance to teach students from many different backgrounds, but what's been most important to helping my students is identifying gaps in knowledge. A pyramid can't stand without a strong base, so why should we expect that of students? I teach using a rough lesson plan, based on what the parent conveys they want taught to their student. During lessons, if there are any clear gaps in knowledge, I pivot and shift the lesson plan to make sure that the student fully understands the subject and can reach their desired learning goals. Of course, if the student is capable of a faster pace, I'll also change the lesson plan to accommodate their needs.
What's most important during the session is that the student is learning what they need to learn, so if there are any materials or specific topics the students or parents want me to cover, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'll do my best to respond within a day. Of course, if there are any questions, please ask!
