Hi! I'm Naomi, and I'm a neuroscientist with a BS from Johns Hopkins University and an MS from UCSF. I received my bachelor's in Neuroscience with a concentration in Computational Neuroscience and a minor in Applied Math & Statistics in 2023. I graduated with a 3.97 GPA and received Department Honors in Neuroscience. From there, I completed my master's in Neuroscience from UCSF and finished with a 4.0 GPA. Throughout this time, I've had the opportunity to serve as a tutor, a teaching assistant, a lecturer, and a mentor! My unique academic experience, coupled with my experience teaching, has given me a deep understanding of math and science topics and the ability to convey those topics to others.
My passion for tutoring began over five years ago when I became a peer tutor at Johns Hopkins University. I spent two and a half years tutoring students one-on-one in calculus and chemistry. During this time, I was also a teaching assistant for an introductory computing class and a computational neuroscience class. I got to hold office hours, design and grade tests, and even deliver lectures! While working on my master's, I again served as a teaching assistant for a molecular neuroscience graduate-level class and volunteered to design and lead a computational neuroscience lecture. Additionally, I've volunteered as a reading tutor for elementary students for the past two years, which has been hugely fulfilling! I can tutor a wide range of math and science classes up to a college level, including: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Physics, Chemistry, Neuroscience, Biology.
My goal is to create a supportive and fun learning environment where students are able to ask any questions they have. My approach involves breaking down a complex problem into smaller pieces, using real-world examples, and encouraging student independence. I hope to help students improve their grades and develop an enthusiasm for the subject!
