Hi there! I'm a Mathematics major with a Statistics minor at UC Santa Cruz, and I tutor high school math: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. My college coursework runs through the full calculus sequence and beyond, so I'm comfortable not just doing high school math, but explaining where it comes from and where it's headed.

Before joining Wyzant, I spent a year as a volunteer after-school tutor at Berkeley High School, working one-on-one with high school students across a range of math classes and skill levels - some who had fallen behind and needed to rebuild their foundations, and others who were doing fine but wanted to get ahead. Sessions focused on keeping up with coursework, preparing for tests, and filling in gaps left over from earlier classes. That year taught me how to spot where a student's understanding actually breaks down, which is usually earlier than the topic they think they're stuck on.
That experience shaped my approach: most students who struggle with math aren't missing the steps - they're missing the reason the steps work. When that happens, math becomes a long list of rules to memorize and then forget, and every new topic feels like it comes out of nowhere. So my focus is on getting a student to genuinely understand what's going on underneath a procedure. Once they do, the material sticks, and they can handle problems on a test that look different from the ones they practiced.
In a session with me, you can expect me to start from something you already feel solid on and build out from there, ask questions to see how you're thinking rather than just lecture, and adjust the pace to you - whether that means slowing down to repair a shaky foundation from an earlier class or moving faster through material you've already got. My goal for every session is simple: you should leave more confident, and able to do something on your own that you couldn't before we started. If that sounds like the help you're looking for, send me a message - I'd love to work with you.
