I'm an incoming PhD student at the University of California, Berkeley where my research will focus on computational thermomechanics -- basically simulating heat shields for rockets during atmospheric reentry. I have maintained a standard of academic excellence, exemplified by a perfect graduate GPA and perfect 5 AP scores on Calculus BC, Physics C Mechanics and E&M, and seven other AP exams. I tutor advanced subjects in math, physics, and mechanical engineering, and my teaching experience includes 1-on-1 tutoring, working as a teaching assistant in undergrad, and guest lecturing for graduate-level engineering seminars. I also spent two summer internships working as a crash structures engineer at Tesla, using these exact skills to improve vehicle safety.
When it comes to my tutoring approach, I believe that the best value I can provide as a tutor is teaching you the skills of learning, not just lecturing from a textbook. I'm happy to clarify concepts, help you derive formulas, and point you to additional high quality resources, but most of my tutoring approach involves working side-by-side with you to solve problems. This is where I can catch gaps in your process, coach your problem-solving method, and provide step-by-step examples. I explore teaching methods including mathematical derivations, visualizations, worked examples, problem-solving strategies, and more to determine what works best for each student.
I am a good fit for advanced high school or college students in STEM fields who are interested in a long-term tutor to develop subject mastery. I am an enthusiastic, high-energy tutor with a passion for both STEM subjects and the practice of teaching. The most important quality I look for in a student is genuine motivation. If you're looking for a long-term tutor who will help you build up mathematical rigor and a strong intuition, please go ahead and book a lesson with me! I'm looking forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
