Hi! My name is Gavin, and I am currently a Freshman at UC Berkeley studying Molecular & Cell Biology, Data Science, and Computer Science.
I have graduated from high school with a 4.9+ GPA (Summa Cum Laude). Over the course of high school, I have taken 15 AP Classes w/ and mean score of 4.7. These AP exams include rigorous STEM and humanities courses including Biology, Chemistry, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, Calculus BC, and English Literature. My highest level of mathematics completed is Linear Algebra/Calculus III, both completed during my senior year of high school.
I've been tutoring since my junior year of high school, focusing mostly on Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Computer Science AP classes as well as lower-level mathematics. Each tutoring session has been 1 on 1, but I have been invited by teachers to give guest lectures to entire classes. I have around 4 years of experience teaching special needs individuals through a program called Serving Advantage and have, as a result, developed an ability to tailor my teaching style to fit the needs of each student. Additionally, I try my best to make learning fun, including analogies and keeping sessions lighthearted. A typical model of helping a student would go something like the following: the student explains a concept which they need help with and find a problem that goes along with it (or I develop one); the student attempts to solve the problem on their own, with check-ins from me on how the solving process is going; once the student has either solved the problem or requires help, I walk through to the solution step-by-step, answering questions along the way, if necessary. After each session, all of my work and notes from the session will be sent to the student or parent for them to review.
In addition to teaching subjects themselves, I can also help provide a model on how to get into a high-level college, if the child/parent would like any guidance on that end. Thank you for your consideration!
