Hi! My name is Gavin, and I am currently a Freshman at UC Berkeley studying Molecular & Cell Biology, Data Science, and Computer Science.

I have graduated from high school with a 4.9+ GPA (Summa Cum Laude). Over the course of high school, I have taken 15 AP Classes w/ and mean score of 4.7. These AP exams include rigorous STEM and humanities courses including Biology, Chemistry, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, Calculus BC, and English Literature. My highest level of mathematics completed is Linear Algebra/Calculus III, both completed during my senior year of high school.

I've been tutoring since my junior year of high school, focusing mostly on Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Computer Science AP classes as well as lower-level mathematics. Each tutoring session has been 1 on 1, but I have been invited by teachers to give guest lectures to entire classes. I have around 4 years of experience teaching special needs individuals through a program called Serving Advantage and have, as a result, developed an ability to tailor my teaching style to fit the needs of each student. Additionally, I try my best to make learning fun, including analogies and keeping sessions lighthearted. A typical model of helping a student would go something like the following: the student explains a concept which they need help with and find a problem that goes along with it (or I develop one); the student attempts to solve the problem on their own, with check-ins from me on how the solving process is going; once the student has either solved the problem or requires help, I walk through to the solution step-by-step, answering questions along the way, if necessary. After each session, all of my work and notes from the session will be sent to the student or parent for them to review.

In addition to teaching subjects themselves, I can also help provide a model on how to get into a high-level college, if the child/parent would like any guidance on that end. Thank you for your consideration!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am an individual with a high aptitude for mathematics, logic, and reasoning. I have taken college-level mathematics courses, along with physical sciences that require up to advanced calculus. I enjoy teaching Algebra to students, as teaching students how to think as they work through each problem is such a joy. Highest level of math completed: Linear Algebra/Calculus III.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I am an individual with a high aptitude for mathematics, logic, and reasoning. I have taken college-level mathematics courses, along with physical sciences that require up to advanced calculus. I enjoy teaching Algebra to students, as teaching students how to think as they work through each problem is such a joy. Highest level of math completed: Linear Algebra/Calculus III.
Biology

Biology

I took AP Biology as a sophomore in high school, scoring a 5 on the AP exam. I had the pleasure of studying computational biology under professors at Carnegie Mellon University. Biology fascinates me; it's so wonderful to see how the many small components of life intertwine to create a perfectly functioning machine.
Calculus

Calculus

High-level STEM student with high aptitude for mathematics, logic, and reasoning. Calculus is the foundation for a large proportion of advanced applications of mathematics like machine/deep learning, so I've spent much time during high school and university studying calculus to gain a deeper understanding of the subject. Highest levels of mathematics taken: Calculus III/Linear Algebra (currently retaking Calculus II and Differential Equations at UC Berkeley).
Chemistry

Chemistry

Hi! I'm Gavin, an advanced STEM-oriented student eager to help others learn (to love) chemistry! I took AP Chemistry my junior year of high school and scored a 5 on the AP exam, demonstrating proficiency both in the lab and on general examinations. I love doing chemistry because so many of the problems are mini puzzles and it's a joy to teach students how to think them through. Thank you for your consideration!
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I am an individual with a high aptitude for mathematics, logic, and reasoning. I have taken college-level mathematics courses, along with physical sciences that require up to advanced calculus. I enjoy teaching mathematics to students, as watching them progress in how they work through each problem is such a joy. Highest level of math completed: Linear Algebra/Calculus III.
Geometry

Geometry

I am an individual with a high aptitude for mathematics, logic, and reasoning. I have taken college-level mathematics courses, along with physical sciences that require up to advanced calculus. I enjoy teaching mathematics to students, as watching them progress in how they work through each problem is such a joy. Highest level of math completed: Linear Algebra/Calculus III.
Physics

Physics

I have experience taking AP Physics courses, including both calculus-based physics classes (Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism), which I received scores of 5 on. Physics is an amazingly interesting subject and a joy to teach. I help students gain such an understanding in these subjects that they begin to notice these physical concepts in real-world situations.

SAT Math

SAT Math

I am an individual with a high aptitude for mathematics, logic, and reasoning. I have taken college-level mathematics courses, along with physical science that require up to advanced calculus. SAT math is some of the most fun out there, with all the little tricks the test-makers try to play on students. I help students prepare for their upcoming exams, giving them hints about what the test may be like, and some easily avoidable mistakes in order to maximize their score. Highest level of math completed: Linear Algebra/Calculus III.
