Hi there! My name is Lokavya (Loka) and I'm a senior at UC Berkeley studying Molecular and Cell Biology on the Genetic, Genomics, and Evolution Track. I absolutely love working with students to make math and science feel less overwhelming and more understandable!
I’ve taken courses in calculus, statistics, general chemistry, and organic chemistry at Berkeley, and I’ve done well in these classes (A’s in calculus and stats). I also scored 5s on AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, and AP Biology, and a 4 on AP Chemistry in high school.
I’ve been tutoring K-10 students for the past few years, in both formal and informal settings, mostly in math and science. I’ve also taught dance to younger kids, which helped me become a lot more patient, adaptable, and better at explaining things in different ways depending on the student.
My teaching style is pretty straightforward - I focus on helping students actually understand what’s going on instead of just memorizing steps. I use a lot of visuals and real-life analogies, and I like to keep sessions interactive by asking questions, using small games, or having students explain things back to me. I’ve found that this helps things “click” a lot better and faster!
I’m very patient and especially good with shy students. If there’s something a student is stuck on, I’ll walk through it step-by-step and make sure they actually understand it by the end. I aim to create a space where my students feel comfortable asking questions and not stressed about getting things wrong. I’m a firm believer that once you really understand the fundamentals, everything else starts to make a lot more sense!
