An nyung! I'm Hyon Joo. I was born and raised in South Korea, have lived in Canada and Australia, and now reside in the USA. Korean is my mother tongue, and English is my second language.
I know firsthand what it takes to learn a second (or third) language: dedication, persistence, and patience. Over the years, I've met many English teachers and tutors in both formal and informal settings. Through these experiences, I've learned that effective language learning goes beyond just the teaching method (or grammar for that matter).
The teachers who truly made a difference were those who created an environment where I felt comfortable making mistakes, expanded my vocabulary, and helped me grasp cultural nuances. Learning a language requires embracing the nuances of communication and cultural understanding.
Now fluent in both English and Korean, and having lived in several English-speaking countries, I deeply appreciate the values and diversity of both Eastern and Western cultures. This perspective provides me with a unique understanding of cross-cultural communication, allowing me to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps effectively.
My educational background includes graduating from a Foreign Language High School with a major in English, and later pursuing Chinese studies at Hankook University of Foreign Studies. Additionally, I earned a Bachelor of Clinical Science majoring in Osteopathic Studies & Human Structure and Function, and a Master of Osteopathic Medicine at Southern Cross University in Australia. I also hold a Women's Wellness Coaching certificate.
