I'm Umar, and I have 6 years of experience tutoring advanced math topics like Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and applied math/engineering concepts. Additionally, I taught Calculus for 1 year to classrooms of 30+ students. My approach is patient, friendly, and explanation-driven, helping students master tough concepts with confidence. I graduated from UC Berkeley (2023) with a Master's in Mechanical Engineering and magna cum laude from UC Merced with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Applied Mathematics. I also run a math YouTube channel: youtube.com/@umar5834.

I’m passionate about teaching Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and engineering courses like physics, mechanics, thermo, fluids, heat transfer, and more. For advanced topics, please share homework files or specific questions beforehand. I tutor online and in-person (Berkeley area).

I also help students prepare for the Mechanical Engineering FE exam (I’ve passed it!) and offer tutoring in Python, MATLAB, and CAD software like SolidWorks and OnShape.

I love working with students who are eager to learn and gain confidence in math and engineering. My sessions are tailored for students who want to go beyond just passing their classes. I’m happy to work with students on pricing, especially for regular sessions. For example, I can offer a reduced rate and free summary notes or practice problems for students who book weekly/biweekly sessions.

I have tutored and taught students in Calculus and have frequently had to reenforce their algebra fundamentals. I have a masters in mechanical engineering and have tutored a handful of middle school students directly in algebra.

I've recently taught Calculus 1 and 2 for about 120 students in total over the past year. Before that I tutored Calculus for nearly all of my undergraduate years both as a volunteer and as a paid tutor in my schools tutoring center. I have tutored Differential Equations and taught it formally as an extension to Calculus 2. I have taken courses in Advanced Ordinary Differential Equations, and can even help with Partial Differential Equations. I've used Matlab in almost all of my engineering courses. I've used it in complex numerical simulation projects in my finite element analysis and numerical methods courses. I've also used it to create GUI's to represent data. If you need help with the core scripting functionalities or would like to know how to set up strong numerical computational scripts I can help.

I hold a Masters degree in mechanical engineering and have strong fundamentals in physics and mechanics. I can comfortably tutor statics and dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and much more. I can also try to tutor advanced heat transfer concepts. I can help with Finite Element Analysis, Numerical analysis, component design, vibrations and control theory and much more. I've earned my certified SolidWorks Associate certification which demonstrates my fluency in SolidWorks and I can help others prepare for the exam as well.
