I combine my professional chess career with being a coach. As a chess player, I have been in 5 Olympiads, Pan-American Champion and World Cup Qualifier. My peak USCF has been 2298.

I have been a coach 10+ years. For instance, I have worked for Berkeley Chess School, Mechanics Institute, and at Hamilton School in Novato. Currently, I mostly teach online. My students have been from the U.S, Germany, Argentina and Colombia. I am fluent in English and Spanish.

Woman Grandmaster, this is the highest female title in chess. Olympic team player. I have played 5 Olympiads. World Cup Qualifier. In 2012 I qualified to the world cup, only 64 people of around the world had the honor to play the world cup.

I am a Spanish native speaker. I have been living 8 years in the U.S. and did my undergraduate degree in Psychology and masters in Sport Management. I am a professional chess player and chess coach. As Spanish teacher, I have worked in 1-1 lessons to help out my students to improve their pronunciation, writing and they feel more confident Speaking and writing in Spanish.

Wonderful Chess Coach!

Carla is a wonderful chess coach. She is of course brilliant at chess, being a woman grandmaster and Olympian. However, she is also a kind, patient, enthusiastic, supportive, and articulate teacher. The fact I'm lousy at chess didn't bother her, but the fact that I love it made her excited to help me get better. I would heartily recommend Carla to anyone wishing to learn more about chess!

Great teacher, expertise plus patience

This was my first chess lesson. I was sheepish about being such a beginner but Carla made the lesson engaging, taught and solidified lots of basic principles, and is a gifted and patient instructor. I wished the lesson were longer and am looking forward to the next one!
