Hey, my name is Sreekar (shree-kur) and I am a sophomore at UC Berkeley studying Computer Science (EECS) and Business Administration as a part of their Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology (M.E.T) dual degree program. Having grown up as a proud Indian and an Orlando native my entire life, I have come to understand the importance of an education, and have learned lessons in my pursuit of it. Specifically, if there was an academic enrichment opportunity available to me, I attempted it. Whether it was Kumon, a decade spent in Mathnasium, attending a large public elementary school, or a small private high school, I have seen countless teaching techniques. However, without a doubt, the common quality of teachers that I have witnessed to have success with my peers and I are ones that are personable and can identify a student's level and meet them there. In other words, I believe a great teacher is one who is not creating band-aid fixes to students' bruises, but is instilling fundamentals that allow students to heal and grow on top of. "Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime"
Thus, whether it was coordinating all tutoring at my local NHS, volunteering as a private tutor for the student-run tutoring organization Study City for over 200 hours, or teaching groups of debaters key fundamentals, I have learned to put extra emphasis on preparing kids for future hurdles, not just getting them over the one they are facing. Having finished Calculus 3 as a senior and scoring a perfect 1600 SAT and 36 ACT , I am comfortable core subjects like mathematics, reading, or writing, I am confident in my ability to help students succeed.
