I am a former general education and reading intervention teacher with 18 years of experience. Today, I dedicate my practice to helping students build the literacy skills needed to become confident readers.

As a one-to-one tutor, I’ve helped readers in grades 1-5 crack the code to reading. My instruction is rooted in Structured Linguistic Literacy, an approach that weaves together phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This systematic and streamlined approach has been shown to be highly effective for struggling readers, including those with dyslexia.

For students who have mastered foundational reading skills, instruction expands to include morphology, advanced vocabulary, comprehension strategies, and knowledge building. Instruction is informed by ongoing assessment and adjusted to each student’s needs.

My warm and patient approach combined with personalized, data-driven lessons have helped struggling readers build confidence and thrive. Whether your child is slightly behind or has struggled for years, I will meet them where they are and provide the support they need to succeed.

Education:
I hold a Master’s degree in Education from the University of California, Riverside and have received specialized training in evidence-based reading programs, including Reading Simplified.

Session Information:
Sessions are 45 minutes, with 30-minute sessions available for 1st grade students.

Dyslexia

As a reading intervention teacher and literacy tutor, I have supported many students diagnosed with dyslexia and other learning differences. I received training in Reading Simplified as well as other programs that follow the Structured Linguistic Literacy approach. This approach is highly effective for struggling readers, including those with dyslexia. I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and continue to stay up-to-date on new research and evidence-based practices for students with dyslexia.

Absolutely Amazing!

For the past few years our son has had challenges with his reading and comprehension, falling further behind each year. This year we decided to home school him so he could focus on his reading. I searched everywhere for a reading tutor who actually understood what he needed and HOW to help him. In the 5 months Jackie has worked with my son, his progress has been nothing short of amazing. His reading and comprehension are now above grade level. He's more confident with his reading and understanding of what he's reading which was the goal we set out to accomplish. Her detailed lesson notes (and I mean extremely detailed) combined with the communication and feedback has been invaluable to his progress. I'll say this... if she's available, and you truly want to help your child with reading and comprehension, book her. Don't wait, don't think about it, book her.

Wonderful Tutor Who Makes Learning Exciting!

Jackie has been tutoring our 4th grader and kindergartner for the past few weeks, and both of our boys absolutely love working with her. She’s kind, patient, and made a great impression from the very first evaluation, quickly developing a plan to help each of them improve their reading skills. Our 4th grader, who was about a year behind, is already showing more confidence, and both boys are so excited to read with her—even on a Saturday morning!
