Is your child’s struggle with reading affecting their self-confidence? I understand, and I would love to help.

I am a former K-5 general education and reading intervention teacher with 17 years of experience. All of my time and energy is now focused on helping struggling readers close the literacy gap.

As a one-to-one tutor, I’ve helped struggling readers in grades 1-5 crack the code to reading. With extensive training in the Speech-to-Print approach, I weave together phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, and students quickly progress to applying these skills in authentic texts. Reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding) are integrated by teaching them as two sides of the same coin, which helps students learn the complex English alphabetic code. This approach is systematic, streamlined, and has been shown to be highly effective for struggling readers, including those with dyslexia.

My warm and patient approach combined with personalized, data-driven lessons have helped struggling readers build confidence and thrive. Your child will become a confident reader whether they’re just a little behind their classmates or have been struggling for years.

Education:
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Education and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of California, Riverside. I am also a member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA).

Session Information:
Sessions are 30 minutes for 1st grade students and 45 minutes for students in grades 2-5. In order to make adequate progress, families should plan to meet at least twice weekly.

During our first meeting, I will conduct a free placement assessment to understand your child's reading proficiency and identify key skill gaps.

Please feel free to contact me to ask any questions you may have regarding my teaching methods or reading goals. I look forward to connecting with you and learning more about how I can best serve you and your student!

A+ experience! Highly recommended!

Jackie is an amazing tutor for both of my sons (3rd grade and 1st grade). She is patient, kind, professional, and honestly knows how to connect with kids. My boys truly enjoy their sessions with her, and I’ve already seen improvements in their confidence and reading. She’s everything you’d hope for in a tutor, and I highly recommend her!
