Hello! My name is Melanie. I'm so glad you stumbled upon my profile. I would love to help you out! My middle names are Patience and Understanding. When I tutor, I feel like I am paying it forward. I love helping people with something that is so important to ones life. What I love about tutoring is I can work one on one with students in small groups. I have discovered a real sense of personal reward in helping students achieve a better level of understanding and comprehension of the subjects I tutor/teach. I've been told that I do a great job of breaking down topics and making them easier to understand. "That's it?" This is something I enjoy hearing.
I received a B.S. in Chemistry at CSUB in 1997. I started substitute teaching and I loved it! In spring 1999 I completed my single subject science credential in chemistry from CSUB and started teaching in the fall of 1999. I taught high school chemistry for three years and middle school life/physical science for two years before I tried out my leadership abilities running an after school program for quite some time. In the past couple of years I have returned to subbing with the intention of teaching full time again. I tutored at Sylvan Learning Center for the past four years. Here, I have tutored all ages from Pre-K to seniors in high school and even adults studying for the CBEST. Besides these popular topics, I've tutored SAT Math and helped people prepare for the ASVAB and CBEST exams.
I am open to the location of the lessons. I prefer to be closer to the southwest so that I can schedule several clients in one night if that is the case.
