I have a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Bakersfield, and I have also completed Kodály Level 1 training in music education. I am currently continuing my education through graduate-level coursework at the University of La Verne. For the past two years, I have worked as an elementary music teacher, teaching general music to students in grades TK through 5th grade and working with beginning band students in 4th and 5th grade.
My teaching experience includes helping students learn basic music concepts such as rhythm, note reading, musical symbols, steady beat, and beginning music theory. I also have experience teaching beginning brass students on trumpet, trombone, and baritone. I focus on skills such as proper posture, breathing, tone production, fingerings or slide positions, reading music, and building confidence on the instrument.
My approach is patient, encouraging, and step-by-step. I understand that every student learns differently, so I use modeling, repetition, visual examples, and guided practice to make music easier to understand. I especially enjoy working with beginning musicians and helping students build a strong foundation without making them feel overwhelmed. My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students can improve their skills, ask questions, and enjoy making music.
