Hello students, I'm Mark!

I am a lifelong learner who loves to give back and help others.
I have 3 degrees from University of Hawaii, USC, and UCLA. My degrees are in Premedical Sciences, Creative Media, and Public Administration. Currently I am a fourth year medical student and passed USMLE Step 1 and 2. I graduate in May. Like the best teachers I had, I have a passion for helping others succeed. I started my teaching career in computer and video classes for high school students, then taught 3 years of college students and adults at the University of Hawaii Outreach program. I have extensive individual tutoring experience as well, and I know what it's like to be on the other side of it working with tutors as a student. In addition to medical school tutoring, I tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in Math and English, and I coached and did private lessons in swimming for 3 years. I have experience working with individuals of all backgrounds and ages.

To be honest, I experienced struggles through challenging subjects in grade school, pre-med, and med school. I know how much a good tutor can make difference. This is why I am choosing to give back and tutor now. I like to customize lesson plans for the individual learner, as we all learn differently and have certain areas we need to focus on. I also like to use my creative media degree and channel my inner nerd to utilize the best that technology, media, and online resources offer. I have tried many different strategies personally and with my students that have worked well and empowered students to better learn beyond my tutor sessions.

I offer my services to any students who want support. I can tailor lessons to specific subjects you want to focus on or go through practice questions with you. I am offering a first time 30 minute free session so that we may meet, get to know each other, and see if we are a good fit for each other.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts or questions. Thank you!

I received a minor degree in English from University of Hawaii. The university had several students from Asia learning English, including my college roomate. I often helped him learn English, and this inspired me to become an English teacher. I taught middle and high school English, in addition to serving as a private tutor to help foreign language students learn English.
