I have spent the past fifteen years actively signing and participating in the Deaf community, which is where my passion for teaching American Sign Language truly developed. I was a Deaf Studies major at CSUN and was accepted into the interpreting program, where I built a strong foundation in ASL linguistics, Deaf culture, and real-world communication. While interpreting was an important part of my journey, I ultimately realized my strengths were better suited for teaching and supporting learners. That shift allowed me to focus on how people actually acquire language and how to make ASL accessible, practical, and engaging for students at different levels.
I currently work as an instructional aide in a Deaf and Hard of Hearing preschool classroom, where I teach ASL daily to Deaf students in both one-on-one and small group settings. Working with preschoolers has strengthened my ability to break language down into clear, manageable concepts while keeping lessons interactive and age-appropriate. I collaborate closely with teachers and support staff, giving me valuable insight into language development, patience, and consistency. At the same time, I am working toward my credential with the goal of teaching ASL at the high school level in the near future.
As a tutor, I bring real-life experience, cultural understanding, and a teaching-centered approach to each session. Whether a student is learning ASL for school, work, or personal connection, I focus on building confidence and practical communication skills rather than memorization alone. I adapt my teaching style to fit individual learning needs and strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. For students and families looking for an experienced, patient, and knowledgeable ASL tutor, I offer both language expertise and a genuine connection to the Deaf community.
