Hi, my name is Jason. I have been tutoring for over 10 years. I get excited when students see how their academic studies have real world implications. Schoolwork can often feel abstract and overwhelming. I will help transform your coursework into concrete and manageable concepts. In so doing, I will help propel you toward your life goals.

I have experience tutoring students across a wide range of subjects and life stages, with particular expertise in computer science, computer programming, physics, and math.

I provide a highly customized curriculum to meet your unique needs. The first step in tailoring your tutoring experience to your personal needs is our initial phone call. During that call we will discern if I will be a good fit for your particular needs and we will discuss a variety of topics, including: Your current and previous experiences with the subject for which you are seeking assistance; your learning style and patterns; your academic areas of strength and weakness; and your personal academic goals. Additionally, in order to maximize the benefits of your tutoring experience, it may be beneficial to provide me with a copy of your class syllabus, textbook, and/or homework assignments. In so doing, I will be able to focus our work on the specific features of your coursework.

I graduated with a Ph.D. in Physics from UCSD in 2016. I received a Springer Thesis award for my graduate dissertation, a Chateaubriand Fellowship and ARCS Scholarship. I graduated with distinction from Harvey Mudd College with a B.S. in Physics. Harvey Mudd College is a member of the Claremont Colleges Consortium and is a STEM focused liberal arts college. In high school, I earned a 5 on AP exams in Physics B, Calculus BC, Computer Science AB and Chemistry.

Approved Subjects

C++

C++

I took data structures using C++ in college. Since then I've used C++ to perform numerical simulations as part of my physics research. I also participated in Advent of Code using C++.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I passed AP Comp Sci B with a 5. In college I took a programming class and a Data Structures class. While earning my Physics PhD I programmed regularly and took online Computer Science classes in Algorithms in Machine Learning. I've helped students with diverse topics such as data retrieval, A* and Minimax.
Data Science

Data Science

For the last several years I've been tutoring data science. I've helped students implement basic classifiers found in sci-kit learn and deep neural networks from scratch. I learned data science from Andrew Ng's coursera classes and participating in several Kaggle competitions.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I used Matlab for 10+ years of research programming. I trained undergraduate and graduate students in research specific Matlab skills. I provide the sort of tutoring you would expect at a research level optimized for student age.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I’ve used Excel for gradebooks and physics research. I enjoy teaching Excel because I think it's underrated.
Physics

Physics

I have a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego. At UCSD, I was a teaching assistant for algebra and calculus based physics, laboratory courses, and the graduate student qualifying exam. I have extensively tutored all ages and skill levels of physics.
Python

Python

I've used Python for 5 years and taught python for about a year. It's currently my language of choice, relatively low barrier to entry but high level language concepts and large usage in professional settings. I've competed in machine learning completions using tensor flow and keras, in addition to writing programs for fun ranging from simple games to text analysis.

Superior, Above-and-Beyond CS + Math Tutor

Jason is genuinely one of the best tutors I've had the pleasure of working with. He's been able to help me work through and debug code for some tricky math/coding assignments - Notably, assignments other tutors on this platform could not help me with. His explanations are thorough, and he always comes to the sessions prepared. I'm thrilled to have found Jason, and would highly recommend him. Thanks Jason! :)

Very knowledgeable and patient!

My son was struggling with material the 2nd semester of AP Physics 2 and Jason really helped to get him up to speed on topics that he was not understanding. He also helped him prepare for his AP exam and final and my son finished strong. Jason was patient and very knowledgeable, explaining these complex topics in a way that my son could understand. We are very appreciative for Jason's help and will be using Jason again next year!

Excellent teacher

Awesome teacher who helped my daughter in solving her complex tensor flow issues which she was struggling for days. He is really patient and takes his time to go over logic and code, helps student to understand the problem in coding and helps resolving it. My daughter flows were based on python and tensor

Patient and Knowledgeable.

Appreciated the time to listen to my questions and come back with examples that made sense. My tutoring involved some computer programming pieces as well and he was very patient and good about breaking down the examples into accessible pieces programmatically. He provided helpful follow-up work that would keep me on track to continue learning.
