I am highly trained teacher. I have a master in education from Teachers College at Columbia University where I won a full scholarship and am a published physical chemist where I hold a second masters. I have taught from pre-k through graduate seminars. I have taught each discipline of college chemistry, high school chemistry and, my favorite, inquiry classes based on science to consider food, ecology, plate tectonics, and anything kid's connect to science. I have taught chemistry labs and upper division chemistry classes at the university level. I was founding faculty for the New Visions Charter network in the Bronx. where I developed a differentiated curriculum and taught all high school sciences for 6 years. I have also taught in Scarsdale, NY and Watsonville, CA.
My approach is constructivist; most of my work is engaging the student to assess their skills and prior knowledge so we can build from that to meet whatever objectives are set forth in the curriculum. A key area of emphasis for me is vocabulary, and the logical considerations of hierarchy and categorization. I find that once students find the "process" they enjoy science.
You got this ... you just don't know it... all you need is a little help.
