Hi, my name is Alex!

If you are reading this - you are on your way to becoming a stronger chess player!

Since 2015, I have been helping students master foundational techniques and build confidence at the chessboard. Chess is a tricky game, but, I believe, every student can master it! Everyone has a unique way of learning so I customize my approach to match each individual’s style.

With a couple of years of experience as a coach at a renowned chess school in Ukraine, I have worked with players of all ages and skill levels. As a Candidate Master (CM) with a FIDE rating of 2099 and a UCF rating of 2220, I bring expertise and passion to the lessons (maybe some humor as well, or at least I hope so :D).

Talented and Professional Teacher

It was immediately clear to me that Alex is extremely knowledgeable both about Chess and teaching techniques. He started by assessing my current skill level through Q&A then issuing me challenges that were of increasing difficulty until I struggled (which was quickly for me). Then he showed me what is correct and we went over more and more challenges working on my weaknesses. He was also kind and professional to work with and was flexible in working with my schedule. I look forward to future lessons with Alex.

Good 1st Chess Lesson

Today Alex taught me the following: 1) how the chess board is laid out and lettered / numbered, 2) he introduced all of the chess pieces one-by-one and taught me the rules of how they move around the board and in which direction, 3) then I had to practice moving each piece based on the rules, 4) then he taught me what check and check-mate meant, and I had to practice how to identify when that happens during a game. In all cases Alex taught me how to move efficiently on the board and how to capture the most pieces with the least amount of moves. He also described the most powerful pieces on the board and the ones that move the most efficiently versus the least efficiently. It was a good lesson.
