Hello! My name is Louis, and I am a geologist with a strong academic background and teaching experience in geology. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and my Master of Science degree in Geology from California State University, Fullerton. During my master’s program, I worked as a teaching assistant, gaining experience teaching students with a wide range of backgrounds and levels of familiarity with geology. I primarily taught introductory geology laboratory courses, many of which consisted of students taking geology to fulfill a general education requirement. I also frequently taught more advanced courses for geology majors, including mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, and advanced field techniques.
My teaching experience has given me the opportunity to explain geological concepts at both introductory and advanced levels. I use a hands-on and interactive approach, incorporating practical examples, visual materials, and problem-solving exercises to help students connect theoretical concepts to real-world geological processes. I focus on breaking down complex topics into understandable pieces while encouraging students to think critically and develop their own problem-solving skills rather than simply memorize information. I also adapt my explanations to each student's existing level of knowledge, whether they are encountering geology for the first time or working through upper-level coursework.
I greatly enjoy helping students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of geology, and I strive to make challenging concepts engaging. My academic background and teaching experience have prepared me to tutor a broad range of geology topics, from introductory geology and general education courses to more advanced subjects.
