I am a returning California native working as an aerospace engineer for a well known laboratory here in LA. I have a BS in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Astronomy from UMD College Park, finishing in the top 10% of my class. Before moving I had two years of experience working at the tutoring center at Montgomery College in Bethesda, Maryland. I attained a College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) certification during my tenure. I was primarily used as a chemistry tutor, but also tutored remedial math through calculus, physics, and basic engineering classes. I really enjoyed helping out aspiring students in nursing, engineering, business, and more.
My training is for one-on-one tutoring that can be tailored to the needs of the individual rather than group sessions. I like to build off of what a student already knows rather than just give the answer to a question. Additionally, when someone is struggling with a given problem type, I like to find multiple examples to allow for more practice before moving on to new material. Lastly, I approach most analytical problems with a practical/hands-on approach rather than rehashing proofs/history taught in the classroom as precursor knowledge.
Most of my experience tutoring is in general chemistry I & II with many nursing and bioengineering students. I have studied through organic chemistry I in undergrad but have found more people need more help balancing chemical reactions than strategies for retrosynthetic analysis! As for astronomy, my background coursework includes astrophysics I-II, computational astrophysics, high energy astrophysics, orbital mechanics, astrobiology, and planetary science. I love nerding out on space and hopefully so do you!
Whether you are completely lost in a subject or just want to make sure you ace your next test, I hope to help your education needs!
